Egypt claims to have found an ancient city in Luxor.

The tourism and antiquities ministry of Egypt reported on Tuesday the discovery of a nearly 2,000-year-old Roman-era settlement in southern Egypt.

According to a statement from the ministry, an archaeological mission in eastern Luxor located a whole Roman-era residential settlement nearby the Luxor Temple.

It was noted as “the most important and oldest village” on the east coast of the Luxor Governorate, which is thought to be an extension of the ancient city of Thebes.

One of the most significant towns in ancient Egypt was Thebes, which is now called Luxor.

In 1979, the tombs of ancient Thebes were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The ministry revealed earlier this month that a 3,500-year-old pharaoh’s tomb had been discovered in southern Egypt.

The unknown pharaoh’s tomb was found by a mixed Egyptian-British team while excavating in the historic city of Luxor.
