Ban on Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will be lifted by Meta

Following a two-year suspension, Meta announced on Wednesday that it will reinstate former US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“In the upcoming weeks, we will reinstate Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of worldwide relations, stated in a corporate blog post that “we are doing so, but with new guardrails in place to discourage repeat infractions.”

Trump’s accounts were suspended by the corporation because of his alleged complicity in the violence at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump, like every other Facebook or Instagram user, is governed by its Community Standards, according to the statement.

He now also faces harsher punishments for repeat crimes because of his violations; these punishments will also be applied to other prominent figures whose accounts are reinstated following suspensions because of civil disturbance under our new protocol.

According to the gravity of the infringement, “should Mr. Trump publish additional violating content, the content would be removed and he will be suspended for between one month and two years,” Clegg stated.

Trump blasted Facebook for “de-platforming” him after the revelation, saying the firm “has lost billions of dollars in value” as a result of his suspension.

He declared on his Truth Social platform that “Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retaliation!”

Trump’s account was reactivated on Twitter in November by Elon Musk, the company’s new owner, 22 months after it had been suspended.

Invading the structure that many Americans consider to be a bulwark of democracy two years ago, Trump fans overran barricades and attacked police.

That day’s incidents marked the first assault on the Capitol since the War of 1812.

Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud have been refuted in more than fifty court cases. Trump lost the 2020 presidential election by a margin of more than seven million votes. His attorney general, William Barr, who left the Justice Department in the final days of the government as Trump looked for a means to hold onto power, likewise rejected them.

On January 6, 2021, there was violence that resulted in five deaths, while four law enforcement officers committed suicide later that day.
