In a wastewater master plan, Manila Water will invest P37,3 billion.

For its wastewater master plan, which will aid in the rehabilitation and protection of natural waterways, Manila Water Company (Manila Water) is investing PHP37.3 billion.

In accordance with legal and environmental standards, the Three-River System Wastewater Masterplan calls for the enormous construction of wastewater treatment facilities and sewage networks along the Marikina River, San Juan River, Pasig River, and Laguna Lake systems.

The goals of these initiatives are to collect, transport, and treat wastewater produced within the aforementioned catchment areas.

According to a statement released by Manila Water on Thursday, in order to maintain the Marikina River system, some residents of Marikina City, San Mateo-Rodriguez, Antipolo City, and eastern Quezon City would have access to the San Mateo-Rodriguez and Quezon City East sewerage systems.

By 2046, the two sewerage systems will provide service to 129,000 people at a cost of PHP10.2 billion.

The water corporation stated that areas of catchments draining into the San Juan River and Pasig River systems will be covered by the Mandaluyong West, Quezon City South, and San Juan South sewerage systems.

The PHP20 billion project will be able to process up to 120 million liters of wastewater per day over a 53-kilometer sewage network, with a daily capacity of 60 million liters.

To further safeguard the Pasig River system, the remaining sections of the North and South Pasig sewerage system will also be built.

The sewerage systems would provide treatment options for homes in Pasig City, as well as parts of Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, and the municipalities of Cainta and Taytay in the province of Rizal, for a total project cost of PHP2.8 billion.

The PHP1.6 billion Hinulugang Taktak sewerage system is already taking developed in Antipolo City, up east of Metro Manila.

Before releasing the effluent into rivers, it will treat 16 million liters of it each day.

Additionally, the water corporation plans to build the Pinugay septage treatment plant and deploy new desludging vehicles in order to maintain sanitary services for the people of the Rizal municipalities of Baras, Pililla, Tanay, and Jala-Jala.

This significant investment in wastewater treatment facilities is supported by Manila Water’s efforts to protect the environment and reduce pollution generated by its operations.

Additionally, it supports the restoration of the ecosystem and is consistent with the Marcos administration’s emphasis on creating infrastructure that is climate resilient.

Manila Water is involved in the reforestation and protection of important watersheds in addition to updating its wastewater treatment services to safeguard natural waterways.

By the end of 2021, its watershed management program had planted approximately 1.2 million trees.
