A look at celebrity reservists as ROTC instructors

In order to supplement the paucity of staff, famous reservists might instruct the Reserve Officers’ Training Course (ROTC).

Senator Ronald Dela Rosa claims that their presence will motivate pupils to join the proposed mandatory ROTC program.

He said that actors like 2nd Lt. Matteo Guidicelli might take an Instructors Development Course in a radio interview over the weekend (IDC).

Army reserve soldier Guidicelli received training from the Presidential Security Group and Scout Rangers.

Winwyn Marquez and Beatrice Luigi Gomez, who won various beauty pageants, also went through basic military training and were recognized for their outstanding efforts.

“I-tap ang mga reservist, please. ‘Yung mga celebrities katulad ni Lt. Guidicelli maaari din bigyan ng allowance. ‘Yun sapat na. If necessary, we can call on the reserves. They are celebrities like Lt. Guidicelli, therefore we may grant them allowances. They suffice. In response to the Department of National Defense’s (DND) worries that it might not have enough staff for the expected 2,400 schools around the country that will need at least four instructors each, Dela Rosa remarked, “They can undertake IDC)”

Dela Rosa promised there are sufficient safeguards in his Senate Bill No. 1349, also known as the Reserve Officers Training Corps for Tertiary Education Act of 2022, as well as the five other ROTC bills proposed by his colleagues, slapping concerns about abuses like hazing.

Every school will have a committee that handles complaints that are made up of DND, school administration, and Commission on Higher Education officials.

Dela Rosa explained that in addition to teaching the students about weapons and warfare, the required ROTC training also covers environmental protection, disaster preparedness, and moral principles.

Because it is a priority initiative for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., he is optimistic that it would pass the Senate.

The bill creating an optional four-year ROTC program and a two-year mandatory National Citizens Service Training program was enacted by the House of Representatives in December of last year.

Carlito Galvez Jr., secretary of the DND, stated in a statement on Saturday that the department “commits to play an active part in the legislative process through our complete cooperation and inputs, whenever and wherever they are needed.”

“Every citizen has a responsibility to defend this nation. The state can compel them to defend if necessary. Our constitution includes this, according to Dela Rosa.
