Marcos: To address the problems in education, we need an open mind and compassion.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated on Monday that the national government must approach problems affecting the country’s educational system with compassion and an open mind.

Marcos said in his address that the government had “failed” the Filipino people, particularly the children, on the topic of closing the gaps that now exist in the education sector. Marcos was speaking at the presentation of the 2023 Basic Education Report (BER) at the Sofitel Hotel.

If we have failed them, we must own it; if we continue to fail them, we will prevent them from being the outstanding Filipinos that we know they are capable of becoming.

It serves as a reminder once more that education is the most important service the government can provide to its people. “They won’t become the great Filipinos that we’ll be acknowledged not only by their fellow Filipinos but by many people around the world,” he continued.

Marcos argued that the “primary reason” for addressing these issues must be the government’s desire to succeed the Filipino people.

“…We in the government are aware of the problems and difficulties our educational system is facing. All of which must be addressed while keeping an open mind and showing sympathy for anyone who may have lagged behind in recent years, he said.

He stated the opinion that the country will flourish if the people are well-educated and the workforce is well-educated and highly experienced.

Under the leadership of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, he was also sure that the nation’s educational system will soon experience “noticeable advances.”

Marcos also expressed gratitude to organizations, government officials, development partners, and all other parties involved for their combined efforts and dedication to pursuing high-quality education for all.

Your presence demonstrates that overcoming our educational issues necessitates not only a diversified strategy but also everyone’s active involvement, he continued.

Retraining and upskilling

Marcos noted that the government must prioritize education as a “moral” and “practical” matter because an educated workforce is essential for the success of the nation.

He underlined the necessity to reskill and upskill the labor force of the nation, and that in order for the government to be “competitive globally,” it must first act “locally.”

“We’ll put forth a lot of effort to ensure that no Filipino gets left behind. We will make sure that our basic education meets the same standards as the rest of the world in order to perform even better. Our efforts to accomplish our aim of offering a top-notch education to our children and future generations will center on this project, he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to not skimp on spending in the field of education, especially when it comes to developing the infrastructure that will give the academic sector a safe and secure atmosphere that is favorable to learning.

As part of his commitment to enhancing the educational system, he also pledged to keep funding the nation’s educators and students.

“We’ll give them a variety of chances that cater to both their career and personal demands. We will provide them with the tools, initiatives, and guidelines they require to carry out their responsibilities as educators and role models for our kids. I really believe that hardworking, productive, and law-abiding individuals are produced by quality instructors,” he remarked.

“We will also make an investment in our students by providing them with the resources and skills they require for regular learning. Let’s make use of the new inventions and technology that will make their quest for knowledge more convenient and effective.

According to Marcos, it is equally crucial to develop student’s academic skills and prepare them to be useful and responsible members of society.

In this approach, he explained, “we can create young people who are not just industrious but who truly love and care about their nation.”

According to Marcos, improving the nation’s educational system calls for a “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” strategy.

“Let’s work together to create the best educational system the Philippines has ever seen. We owe it to our kids to put their health first and to provide them with the best education possible so they can lead tomorrow’s Philippines and the rest of the globe, not just in terms of innovation.

The 2023 BER, which Duterte presented, describes the basic education system in the nation as well as the goals and actions taken by the Education Department to carry out its duties.
