DOST keeps funding initiatives to address COVID-19.

According to a representative, ongoing studies to combat the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) are being supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The antibody neutralization assay for new variations of concern was one of the experiments that demonstrated potential in Covid-19 instances surveillance.

According to DOST Undersecretary Leah Buendia, if it ever Covid instances rose again in the country, this study, funded by the DOST and directed by Dr. Pia Bagamasbad of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in UP-Diliman, might be developed to undertake wider testing.

“The nation is still bolstering its DOST programs in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic, which is why we are more resistant to illnesses brought on by various bacteria. The pandemic has taught us over the past two years how important a whole-of-government strategy is “She stated during a Laging Handa press conference.

Buendia mentioned the Philippine Genome Center, another DOST-funded undertaking.

“Ito po ay mula doon sa mga pasyente na nagkaroon na po ng Covid-19 sa pamamagitan po ng Philippine Genome Center ato ay nagkaroon po ng biosurveillance ang Covid-19 sa pamamagitan po ng tinatawag na whole genome sequencing ng buong virus. Currently, the focus is on the genomic epidemiology perspective or on the sakit up until the focus is on the mas malalim na pang-unawa sa pagkalat po ng sakit. (The Philippine Genome Center makes it possible to biomonitor Covid-19 by sequencing the virus’ entire genome. To monitor the disease and better understand how it spreads, it is important to adopt and apply a genomic epidemiology approach “She spoke.

Buendia asked scientists to work with the government to find cures for ailments.

In order to participate in research and development (R&D) projects focused on several priority areas, the DOST is inviting researchers, scientists, engineers, government organizations, the academe, and the commercial sector.

Energy, manufacturing, utilities, transportation, food, process, mining and minerals, metals and engineering, advanced materials and nanotechnology, optics, and photonics, information and communications technologies, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), space technology application, a fusion of emerging technologies/industry 4.0 and smarter cities, environment, disaster risk reduction-climate change adaptation, unmanned vehicle systems, and space technology are among these priority areas.
