Palace: Grab pledges to add 500K jobs

Grab Holdings, Inc., a ride-hailing company, has promised President R. Marcos Jr. that it will provide employment possibilities for around 500,000 Filipinos, Malacaang stated on Thursday.

The pledge was given by Grab CEO and co-founder Anthony Tan during a meeting that President Marcos had with Grab representatives on Thursday at Malacaan Palace in Manila, according to a statement from Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil.

According to Garafil, Tan was joined by other Grab executives as they discussed a number of ideas aimed at modernizing the Philippine transportation system.

Garafil stated that Grab CEO and co-founder Anthony Tan assured the President that his company will deliver at the meeting by promising to create jobs in the nation.

Marcos praised Grab’s initiative to increase employment levels in the nation.

We need it, I suppose. We always emphasized the need to create jobs immediately at the outset of everything. Because so many firms have shut down, many people—including OFWs—really have nowhere to go (overseas Filipino workers). Therefore, we must get employment, he stated, as reported by the PCO.
That’s why I’m rushing. If we can implement this as soon as possible. And as far as Grab is concerned, I am aware of how swiftly they operate. since you’ve done it so frequently previously. You do not need to scale it in the scale. You’ve already scaled it.

Tan promised, according to Garafil, that Grab would find a method to increase employment opportunities not just in Metro Manila but also in the provinces of Davao, Cebu, and Iloilo.

Marcos mentioned during the meeting that since he became president in June 2022, his administration has been able to generate about two million jobs.

The President said that Grab’s idea would immediately increase employment opportunities and lower the nation’s unemployment rate.

We’ve been successful in lowering the unemployment rate, but it’s still a problem “said said. “We wish to continue bringing it down.

Given that its pilot test has been running well for four years, Grab, which began operations in the Philippines in July 2013, is advocating for the legalization of motorcycle taxis.

The use of motorcycles to transport people or goods is forbidden by law.

However, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will pilot test the operation of motorcycle taxis inside Metro Manila and Metro Cebu in 2019 in response to petitions to review the policy and permit motorcycles as a means of public transportation.

After the nation enacted a law for four-wheel transport, Congress must pass a bill to establish the norm for motorcycle taxis or the two-wheel side, according to DOTr officials.

A number of measures were put out to control and legalize the use of motorcycle taxis as public utility vehicles in order to protect and safeguard the shareholder.
