BOC beats its revenue projection for January by P7.4 billion.
In comparison to its projected revenue for January 2023, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has reported a surplus of 11.79 percent, or PHP7.415 billion.
According to a preliminary report made public on Friday, the agency brought in PHP70.327 billion in total last month, above its goal of PHP62.911 billion.
The amount collected is PHP11.98 billion (20.53%) or more than the PHP58.346 billion in income reported for the same month in 2022.
At the same time, the BOC claimed that it had carried out 36 arrests in various ports in January 2023.
It translated to the seizure of various commodities totaling about PHP908.137 million in contravention of Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
Smuggled agricultural supplies worth PHP794.463 million and illegal pharmaceuticals worth PHP104.833 million were among the items recovered.
The Bureau maintains its strong performance under the direction of Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz by stepping up border protection measures and bolstering its anti-smuggling program to guarantee the most effective legal revenue collection.
In keeping with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s eight-point socioeconomic program, he also continues to modernize and introduce legislative reforms to combat Customs fraud and corruption while maintaining effective trade facilitation in the nation.
