One of the top priorities of recently appointed Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian to significantly enhance DSWD operations is the full digitalization of the agency’s systems, processes, programs, and services.

On his first day in office last Wednesday, Gatchalian met with DSWD undersecretaries and other officials and discussed the agency’s operations, programs, and services. He then brought this up in his remarks.

He stated that in order to ensure that only deserving and qualified families and individuals will be serviced, he also intended to purge the beneficiaries’ database.

In order to provide immediate and prompt assistance to the families who will be affected by disasters and calamities, the DSWD secretary also mentioned other plans that he hopes to pursue. These plans include setting up logistics networks and additional warehouses for relief goods and family food packs in strategic locations across the nation that are closer to the people.

According to Gatchalian, this is in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

To assuage staff members’ concerns, his first order of the day was to do away with formalities and get things done quickly.

In addition, Gatchalian reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the current organizational structure and stated his willingness to collaborate with the department’s current staff.

The new Secretary has received the complete backing of the entire DSWD staff.

Briefings on the duties and primary goals of the various departments’ offices, bureaus, services, and units (OBSUs) as well as its various field offices will continue in the days to come. Additionally, Gatchalian will visit the OBSUs, interact with the employees, and become accustomed to the DSWD facilities. Next week, he will also meet with the department’s regional directors.
