LTFRB approves an additional 100K TNVS for Grab

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has permitted Grab Philippines to register an additional 100,000 vehicles as transport network vehicle services (TNVS) (Grab).
Teofilo Guadiz III, the chair of the LTFRB, stated in a statement on Friday that the choice was taken to help meet TNVS passenger demand.
“So, the initial estimate was 100,000, and it increased further after three months. The number of TNVS may be increased until it meets the demands of the riding public, according to Guadiz.
Following a meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday, Grab promised to add 500,000 new employment for Filipinos. This announcement followed that promise.
“With the production of 100,000 motor vehicles, including both four-wheeled and motorcycle taxis, 500,000 new employment will be created. But the initial distribution will only be 100,000; not all will be distributed right away to avoid market saturation, he added.
He said that interested drivers in other cities, including Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao, would also be offered TNVS franchises.
A professional driver’s license and completion of a 15-hour program on road safety are prerequisites for a TNVS franchise.
He stated that additional standards would shortly be disclosed in a memo circular.
