To combat poverty in four provinces in the region, the Department of Agriculture in the Davao Region (DA-11) has allocated PHP32.6 million in funding.

14 towns in the provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental are the budget’s target recipients this year, according to DA-11 Regional Officer for Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Naomi Lamata.

The social preparedness component and food production will each receive PHP3 million from the total budget, along with PHP20 million for livelihood and PHP9.5 million for the program administration office.

“These municipalities were located by the Philippine Statistics Authority. They are people who come from the most impoverished families “said Lamata.

In Davao del Norte, she named San Isidro and Talaingod as the target municipalities. In Davao Oriental, she named Caraga, Tarragona, Manay, Baganga, Governor Generoso, Cateel, and Boston. In Davao Occidental, she named Jose Abad Santos, Don Marcelino, Malita, and Sarangani. In Davao del Sur, she named Kiblawan.

Production of bananas, corn, and layer chickens are among the projects, according to her.

“The beneficiary profiling process has begun. 15 000 banana Cardava plantlets along with fertilizers, tools, barrels, crates, and sprayers will be delivered to the municipalities which selected the banana production project “She spoke.

The recipients will receive 30 bottles or packs of insecticides, 144 sacks of fertilizer, and 24 bags of hybrid corn seeds for corn growing.

DA-11 will provide five-month-old chicks that are prepared to lay eggs for the layer chicken industry.

Lamata added that the province of Davao de Oro is already a recipient of the SAAD program, with a PHP209 million budget for its five-year implementation period, which began in 2018.

The DA’s SAAD initiative, which is locally supported, attempts to reduce poverty in the underserved agricultural and fishing industries.
