The Philippines will continue to support the “peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine,” Marcos reiterated in an official statement on the two leaders’ phone call on February 13.

According to the DFA, President Marcos emphasized the Philippines’ support for prior UN decisions recognizing Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence.

Additionally, the President thanked President Zelenskyy for guaranteeing the safety of Filipino people who had been repatriated from Ukraine during the crisis.

According to the DFA’s quotation of Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president praised Marcos for his assistance and Manila’s “clear” stance on the crisis.

“The Ukrainian President requested that the Philippines continue to assist Ukraine in the UN and other relevant fora. As Ukraine views the Philippines as an important partner in the area, he expressed optimism for the future of relations between the two countries, the statement said.

Since Marcos took office as president in June of last year, the two leaders have not spoken on the phone before.

According to the most recent DFA data, 451 distressed Filipinos have received assistance overall since the war began, 397 of whom have been repatriated to their home country while 54 others have been relocated to other nations.

As of June 2022, there are roughly 380 Filipinos living in Ukraine.
