Considering racial and cultural anti-discrimination legislation in Lanao Sur

Rep. Ziaur-Rahman Alonto-Adiong of Lanao del Sur’s 1st District on Thursday suggested passing a law against racial and cultural discrimination.
He claimed that this was in response to a television program that reportedly portrayed Muslim Filipinos as “regular suspects” in crimes.
Adiong urged the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and all other relevant organizations to check into the occurrence involving a primetime TV program in a statement.
In order to combat similar instances of discrimination in the media and on other streaming and digital platforms, he promised to evaluate, improve, and advance legal measures.
Adiong claimed that “Muslim characters” were seen in one of the show’s episodes “harboring and approving stealing, under the pretense of using stolen things to help others.”
He asserted that the personalities have a bad image among law enforcement in addition to owning firearms.
“They are stereotypical, damaging, and prejudiced depictions of an entire community. I am profoundly pained by this picture of discrimination as a Bangsamoro Muslim and as a district legislator for Lanao del Sur “said he.
Adiong noted that according to the Quran, stealing is a serious sin in Islam.
