DOTr: Renovating an old airport will help Western Visayas’ economy

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) applauded the approval of the PHP500 million fund for the renovation and extension of the runway at Antique Airport and noted how it may help the Western Visayas region’s economy and tourism.
The DOTr praised Congressman. Antonio Legarda Jr. of the Antique Lone District and Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda for their efforts to ensure the fund allocation in a statement released on Monday.
According to the statement, “the fund allocation would ensure an increase in tourist and economic activity in Antique and Western Visayas.”
500 million PHP will be set out under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the “construction restoration, and development of various transportation infrastructure-aviation.”
The runway expansion and Salazar Elementary School’s relocation and duplication will both be covered by the money, according to the statement.
The fund will also be utilized to create a firehouse, a control tower, and a passenger terminal facility.
Under the DOTr’s Aviation Infrastructure Program, the upgrading of the Antique Airport was suggested last year.
The governor of Antique, Rhodora Cadiao, stated in August of last year that expanding the airport would enable bigger aircraft to take off and land, lower the cost of travel, and enable freight operations by air.
