On a three-hectare plot inside the 34-hectare Upper East township of Megaworld Inc., a Japantown will shortly be built.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez stated in a press conference on Monday that Megaworld Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Tan, an adopted son and honorary mayor of Bacolod, had told him that the design ideas were nearing completion.

You wouldn’t need to travel to Japan; all you would need to do is visit The Upper East in this country, according to Benitez.

“We’ll invite businesses from Japan to share space in our Japan Village. This is done in collaboration with Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo “said he.

Benitez, who accompanied President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on his recent official visit to Japan, announced that Councilor Jason Villarosa has been assigned to coordinate the visit of potential Japanese locators with the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo.

He continued, “One of the businesses would like to work together for a heritage or cultural monument in the proposed Japan Town.

Benitez added that his trip to Japan was “extremely successful” because he met potential investors in the infrastructure and renewable energy industries.

Nonetheless, he said, “We would like to promote ourselves for the prospect of future projects in Bacolod City. There is no specific contract that we are looking for.”

Benitez stated that he wants Bacolod to concentrate on cuisine tourism in order to draw in Japanese tourists.

“From infrastructure to tourism, we specifically aimed to secure these things from our journey to Japan. Our counterparts there have provided us with a very strong lead, “Said he.
