PBBM designates February 24 special non-working day

The 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution will henceforth be observed on February 24, a special non-working holiday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has decreed, rather than February 25, which is a Saturday.
According to the idea of holiday economics, Proclamation No. 167, which was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on behalf of the President on Thursday, allows Filipinos to take advantage of a long weekend.
The proclamation stated: “The celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary may be moved from February 25, 2023 (Saturday) to February 24, 2023 (Friday), provided that the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary is maintained. This will allow our countrymen to benefit from a long weekend in accordance with the principle of holiday economics.
In light of this, it said, “Therefore, then, I Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines, do thus declare Friday, 24, February 2023, as a special (non-working) day across the country.”
The Department of Labor and Employment was mandated by the proclamation to release the proper circular in order to implement the proclamation for the private sector.
Proclamation No. 42, issued on August 22, 2022, as revised by Proclamation No. 90, issued on November 11, 2022, designated February 25, 2023, or the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, as a special non-working day across the nation.
According to Proclamation No. 42, a long weekend will “promote domestic travel and enhance tourism spending in the country” since it follows the theory of holiday economics.
Holiday economics was implemented by the previous administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to increase domestic tourism.
