Marcos instructs AFP to “adapt suitably” to the SCS controversy

On Monday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. encouraged the military to “adapt suitably” in handling tensions in the bitterly disputed South China Sea (SCS), noting the Philippines’ newfound vulnerability to foreign threats.

“We were able to keep that peace and maintain that understanding with all of our neighbors for many, many years. At the Brigadier General Benito N. Ebuen Airbase in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, he addressed the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Visayas Command (Viscom). “Now things have started to change, and we must adjust accordingly,” he said.

Possibly the “most difficult geopolitical problem in the entire planet,” according to Marcos, is the sea row.

“Even if there is a conflict in Ukraine, here in the South China Sea, which is viewed as the most difficult and most complicated problem,” he continued. “Kahit na may giyera sa Ukraine ay dito sa South China Sea sinasabi ito ‘yung pinakamahirap na problema at pinakakomplikado na problema.”

This new security environment, according to Marcos, has altered the AFP’s mandate.

He remarked, “There was a time when we did not have to be concerned about these threats and the escalating rivalry between the superpowers.

“The AFP mission and your mission are both bago. The AFP’s mission has altered, at kailangan natin bantayan nang mabuti ‘yung ating dating hindi kailangan masyadong isipin. And now we have to pay attention to things that were once disregarded),” he continued.

The Philippines is attempting to establish a “precarious balance” between the US and China, according to Marcos, who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Wall Street Journal in January.

dedication to peace

The administration’s foreign policy is “driven by a commitment to peace and driven by the national interest,” as Marcos reminded government troops in the meanwhile.

He expressed appreciation to the AFP for consistently defending the nation’s people and its borders.

Also, he expressed gratitude for their contribution to “a good, safe, peaceful, and honest election” last year.

“You need to know that every Filipino understands and is grateful for your service, sacrifices, and the entire country knows how difficult your job is,” he added. “Kailangan niyong malaman na bawat isa sa kanila ay nauunawaan at nagpapasalamat sa inyo sa inyong serbisyo, nagpapasalamat sa iny

He claimed that without the AFP’s efforts to maintain peace and security, people would not be able to lead fulfilling lives.

“We know that the Philippines is a small country, but we need to defend our territory, we need to fight for the rights of every Filipino because,” the Philippines is a sovereign country, the Philippines has a functioning government, and that functioning government includes

He said that he was confident they “will always rise to the difficulties.”

“Once more, our military continues to produce heroes. Continue your wonderful work. The nation appreciates you. The nation is depending on you, he continued.

The Provincial Government of Cebu and the Department of National Defense – AFP signed a memorandum of agreement regarding the relocation and functional replication of the affected buildings, structures, and facilities, including road networks, electric, and water facilities, of the Central Command from its current location at Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City, during Marcos’ visit to the air base.

He also visited with a number of AFP officers, who briefed him on the latest military developments and successes, particularly in Viscom.
