Release of P495M for right-of-way at NLEX-SLEX connector approved

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) stated on Tuesday that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will receive more than PHP495 million for the purchase of right-of-way for the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project (NSCRP).

DPWH received the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) for PHP495,129,744 after DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman authorized it.

The SARO is intended to pay for right-of-way for properties impacted by the NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project, according to a statement from the DBM.

Pangandaman admitted that gaining ROW is essential for carrying out the NSCRP.

“As a result, it’s critical to ensure payment for all affected properties. We also appreciate the support and cooperation of our kababayan (countrymen). That is crucial for the project to move forward, she added, adding, “Importante po ‘yon para umusad ang proyekto.”

According to the DBM, the amount would be applied to the DPWH’s 2023 budget, which Pangandaman approved for release on February 22.

The “Build, Better, More” infrastructure development initiative of the Marcos government, according to Pangandaman, will benefit even more from the release of the funds.

“The DBM also ensures that priority projects and initiatives of the Marcos Jr. administration will be provided with the requisite funding at the earliest opportunity,” she stated. “We continue the timely release of funds under the 2023 General Appropriations Act.”

“Our Build, Better, More program will surely benefit from the budget for the right-of-way payments for the NSCRP,” Pangandaman remarked.

Civil work for the NSCRP is 69 percent complete, while ROW acquisition is 94 percent complete, according to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan’s January report.

In May 2019, work on the PHP12.20 billion NSCRP got underway.

The NSCRP, which is expected to be finished in December 2023, is a roughly eight-kilometer, four-lane elevated toll road that connects the Skyway Stage 3 to PUP Sta. Mesa in Manila and extends the NLEX southward from the end of Segment 10 in C3 Road, Caloocan City.

Once finished, it will take just 20 minutes instead of two to get from SLEX to NLEX. 35,000 drivers are expected to benefit from it each day.

The project aims to relieve traffic in Metro Manila and encourage growth in Manila, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and other nearby communities.
