Despite the popular Chinese social media app TikTok being banned, the US administration is still taking “every step” to secure US citizens’ data, a White House representative said on Tuesday.

Olivia Dalton, a spokesman, said, “We’ve been open about our worries about apps like TikTok.

“The Biden administration is concentrating on the issue of certain nations, such as China, attempting to use digital technologies and American data in ways that pose unacceptably high threats to national security. Since protecting Americans’ sensitive data is one of this administration’s top national security priorities, we are doing everything within the executive branch’s power to address this issue, including passing the first-ever presidential directive outlining additional national security factors for CFIUS to take into account.”

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS, is an interagency body with the power to examine specific foreign investment-related transactions and assess their potential impact on national security.

The US president’s largest executive office, the Office of Management and Budget, directed agencies to remove TikTok from federal devices and issued guidelines and instructions for doing so in a memo sent to the heads of executive departments and agencies on Monday. The memo also directed agencies to develop standards and guidelines requiring the removal of TikTok from federal information technology.

“President (Joe) Biden proposed an executive order last year to prevent the gathering and use of sensitive American data. Hence, we’ll keep considering other steps we may take, such as how to cooperate with Congress on this problem “Dalton stated.

Because of possible security issues, TikTok has been prohibited on devices provided by the government in certain US states.
