President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated on Friday that the current administration is working hard to upgrade and modernize the nation’s transportation system and that “major” infrastructure projects are being undertaken to reenergize the Philippine economy.

In the Ceremonial Hall of the Malacaan Palace in Manila, Marcos made the comment while expressing his happiness over the signing of Contract Package NS-01 (CP NS-01) for the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System.

“By signing this contract package, we open a new chapter in the realization of significant infrastructure projects that will promote economic growth. Through it, we also carry out a commitment to realize our common goals and objectives, which will serve as the cornerstone of a more pleasant and honorable existence for every Filipino, he said.

“Thus, I pledge to the people of the Philippines that the administration will work to modernize and enhance the nation’s transportation infrastructure. As we go swiftly toward a better tomorrow, this will serve as one of the pillars of our success, Marcos continued.

An effective transportation infrastructure, according to Marcos, would boost the economy and employment.

Additionally, he emphasized that strengthening the transportation industry would enhance the nation’s supply chain deficiencies and would make the economy “stronger and more sustainable.”

So, really, we can’t fail in this regard, Marcos added. In order to create a future full of opportunities where every Filipino may prosper and achieve their goals for themselves, their families, and their nation, let’s work together, in unison, and in cooperation.

“New prosperous age”

As he celebrated the CP NS-01’s passage, Marcos proclaimed that the nation will now be “more connected than ever.”

According to him, the signing will also usher in the Philippines’ “new era of wealth” under the so-called “new normal.”

Upon completion, the North-South Commuter Railway will drastically shorten the travel time between Clark International Airport and Calamba City, Laguna, according to Marcos. “In fact, this is a milestone towards the realization of the full North-South Commuter Railway line,” he said. “The installation of civil works for the CP NS-01 would also provide thousands of jobs for Filipinos throughout construction, in addition to upgrading our transportation infrastructure.”

Marcos praised the Mitsubishi Corporation and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for their dedication to completing CP NS-01 by 2028.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency for their financial assistance in putting CP NS-01 into action and for being “active partners” in the nation’s infrastructure development.

I can say without fear of contradiction that the development of the Philippines, especially in terms of infrastructure, has shown that Japan has taken a very, very important part in that. “We are glad to have you with us as we continue to strengthen our relations built on mutual confidence and cooperation, a relationship that has gone on for many, many decades,” Marcos said.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista and Mitsubishi Corp. Executive Vice President Koji Ota both signed the contract package.

The North-South Railway Project – South Line (Commuter), also known as the NSCR Extension Project, and the Malolos-Clark Railway Project both need the acquisition of railroad infrastructure projects.

The contract package comprises, among other things, platform screen doors, automated fare collecting, computerized management maintenance, turnouts, track sleepers, power supply and distribution systems, signaling systems, railway tracks, and turnouts and track sleepers.

When finished, the NSCR’s 35 stations will drastically shorten the distance between Clark International Airport and Calamba City, Laguna, and their disaster-resistant infrastructure will let passengers visit them safely.
