All certified lab reports now include the PH Red Cross saliva test
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) saliva reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test is now included in all official laboratory findings in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The PRC is the main organization for Covid-19 testing, led by Senator Richard Gordon, its Chairman and CEO. It is the only organization in the nation that has been authorized by the Department of Health to do saliva RT-PCR testing.
According to the World Health Organization, the saliva RT-PCR test, which is a cheaper, quicker, and non-invasive test for Covid-19, is based on PCR and is regarded the gold standard for Covid-19 testing.
The PRC has tested 3,307,946 people, accounting for 23% of all tests done in the country, whereas Detoxicare and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine have only tested 831,191 and 534,472 people, respectively.
The Red Cross has collaborated with several shopping malls via its drive-thru collection locations to make Covid-19 testing more accessible to more individuals.
“We currently have 13 molecular labs with the capacity to test 46 thousand tests each day. PRC will soon open a new molecular laboratory in Cotabato to serve the city and its surrounding regions as we increase our testing capability. We can defeat the infection quicker if we screen more individuals. People will be able to return to work and school securely, and the economy will be able to open up as a result,” Gordon added.
Gordon and other PRC officials were in attendance virtually to express their support for the PRC molecular laboratory in Subic, which just celebrated its first anniversary.
