From March 6 to March 11, Marikina will not hold face-to-face classes

In cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd), the city administration of Marikina on Friday issued an order banning face-to-face classes from March 6–11 at all levels in both private and public institutions.

The decision, according to Marikina Public Information Office (PIO), was made in preparation for the alleged transit strike and its impact on those who commute and especially students who are attending classes.

On days when there is a transport strike, students will continue their work and studies at home using their modules from Marso 6 [Lunes] to Marso 11 [Sabado]. Online courses might be offered as an alternative learning method for people who are qualified. If the strike is not called off before the week is finished, it will start on March 6 [Monday] and go through March 11 (Saturday),” the city government of Marikina and DepEd Marikina said in a joint statement.

On March 6–12, 2023, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., the municipal government of Taguig, led by Mayor Lani Cayetano, has given “Libreng Sakay” (free ride) for commuters who will be impacted by the transit strike in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The following are the free routes:

Route 1: General Luna and Bagumbayan corners of Cayetano Boulevard (vice versa)

Route 2, junction of Cayetano Boulevard and Napindan/Tipas/Sta. Ana Admin Luna (vice versa)

Route 3. Market-Market and Water Fun (vice versa)

Waterfun Route 4, Gate 3 (vice versa)

Route 5. Market-Market DOST (vice versa)

Highway 6; Market-Market; BCDA Petron (vice versa)

Road 7. Gen. Luna and Petron BCDA corner Cayetano

The general public is informed that the city’s fleet of cars will be marked with the official municipal insignia and the words “Libreng Sakay hatid ng City of Taguig” (Free Rides courtesy of the Taguig LGU).

Col. Jean Fajardo, the spokeswoman for the Philippine National Police, said the “Libreng Sakay” of PNP mobility assets are prepared to be deployed for stranded employees and commuters in advance of any probable suspension of transportation next week.

“Those kinds of free rides are always provided by the PNP if it is anticipated that our countrymen will find it difficult to travel, particularly if the mass transportation strikes continue. The PNP’s mobility assets are on standby and will be made available to help our people, so they can travel to their destinations, jobs, and schools. We have already coordinated with the LGUs, and their respective LGUs have also committed to providing

She noted that the field commanders had already been told to keep an eye on anticipated gatherings. Personnel from the PNP and civil disturbance management will be on call to keep the peace and order.

Expect the PNP to respect the rights of the protesters to express their feelings, but let’s always ask them to make sure that they won’t break the law and we’ll implement what’s known as maximum tolerance, Fajardo emphasized.

Public utility vehicle (PUV) operators only have until June 30, 2023, to operate under a provisional authority, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) memorandum circular no. 2023-013, which was released on February 20.

In opposition to the LTFRB’s directive, several transport organizations declared last Monday that they will cease operations nationally for one week beginning March 6.
