The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Monday that it had seized agricultural products worth about PHP40 million that had been falsely claimed at the Subic Port.

The DA said in a statement that a certain Abucayan Commerce and Trade received the illegally obtained goods.

According to the DA, the team discovered misdeclared agricultural products worth over PHP40 million that was supposed to be made of squid rings but instead contained dressed chicken, duck head, and duck neck.

Two container vans were used to transport the package, however, some standards were missing, most notably the phytosanitary import approval (SPSIC).

It stated that Abucayan Commerce and Trade would be held accountable for allegedly misclassifying and misdeclaring the shipment.

According to the DA, charges for breaking both the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016 and the Food Safety Act of 2013 will be filed.

It said that the action remains a component of the administration’s campaign to stop agricultural smuggling, which was previously referred to as economic sabotage.

It continued, “The seizure of the aforementioned consignment is related to the ongoing directions of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prevent illegal trade activities in order to enable Filipino farmers and fishermen to enhance income and make locally grown agricultural products more competitive.

The Bureau of Customs, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the Bureau of Animal Industry was among the organizations that assisted the DA Office of the Assistant Secretary for Inspectorate and Enforcement (IE) in the meantime.
