Following a 10- to 20-day training period, 233 inhabitants of Pangasinan’s fifth and sixth districts were given livelihood beginning kits by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The recipients of the Special Training for Employment Program received a PHP160 daily allowance during the course time, according to TESDA Ilocos Regional Director Vincent Cifra in an interview (STEP).

He remarked, “They now have the equipment to utilize after the training (May magagamit na sila after the training)”.

The courses given were Automotive Servicing NCI, Bread Making Leading to BPP NCII, Cookery NCII, Dressmaking NCII, Electrical Installation, and Maintenance NCII, Raise Organic Small Ruminants Leading to OAP NCII, Service Underchassis Components Leading to AS NCII, Cake Making NCII, and Pastry Making NCII.

In addition, Cifra said, “We will be monitoring the livelihood beginning given to them in collaboration with the local government entities and we hope they would use it to improve their life.

Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, who was present for the kit delivery, urged the recipients to use the training and materials to improve their communities and way of life.

One of the recipients, 25-year-old Anthony Inocencio of this town, said he will use the starter kit and the skills he has learned to fix cars.

Via entrepreneurial, self-employment, and service-oriented activities, STEP is a community-based training program that aims to address the specific skill needs of the communities and create employment.

Even in remote areas, TESDA offers a variety of skill-training programs where participants can launch their own enterprises or pick up new abilities for a different line of work.
