Senator Imee Marcos urged farmers in this province to grow crops that are driven by the market on Thursday in an effort to boost their income.

At the Pampanga State Agricultural University in Magalang town, Marcos spoke with participants in the Young Farmers Challenge and Enhanced KADIWA programs. She stressed the significance of planting crops that are in demand in order to increase farmers’ income and, ultimately, their standard of living.

You should plant what is in demand in the market, she advised. “Dapat kung ano ang in-demand sa market, yung ang itatanim ninyo,” she remarked.

The senator urged farmers to produce vegetables that are utilized in chopsuey, such as cauliflower and bell pepper, rather than ones that are low-priced in the markets like the elements for “pinakbet”—eggplant, okra, and squash.

“Ang baba ng presyo ng mga gulay pang pinakbet at ang taas ng presyo ng mga gulay pang chopseuy,” they said. From pinakbet to chop suey, you can advance (vegetable prices for “pinakbet” are modest, while those for chop suey are high). As a result, we must advance from pinakbet to chopsuey,” she remarked.

In the meantime, Marcos expressed her happiness at the fact that young farmers are using hydroponics to cultivate in-demand plants like lettuce.

The senator met with program participants to learn more about how things were going, as well as to find out what problems and troubles they were having running their firms.

Senator Marcos has taken the Young Farmers Challenge and the Improved KADIWA programs on, working with the Minister of Agriculture. They give money to farmers’ organizations and young people who aspire to work in agriculture.

As part of the celebration of Women’s Month, Marcos oversaw the delivery of PHP3,000 in financial aid to more than 2,500 women in the municipalities of Arayat, Magalang, and Mexico while he was in Pampanga.
