PH and the Australian military begin preparations for a significant defensive engagement

High-ranking representatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Australian Defense Force (ADF) met on Friday to discuss preparations for the upcoming Indo-Pacific Endeavor 2023 (IPE23), which will take place in many countries from June to October.

IPE23 this year also includes the Philippines, according to a statement from Col. Jorry Baclor, head of the AFP Public Affairs Office.

He said, “Today, March 17, at the AFP General Headquarters, Vice Chief of Staff, AFP Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura met with the IPE23 commander, Air Commodore Anthony McCormack.

According to Baclor, the ADF team for IPE23 is in the nation to make plans for the activity’s Philippine leg, which is scheduled to take place in August.

IPE23 would primarily concentrate on island maneuver operations and territorial defense, he continued.

In the meeting, Cordura expressed the AFP’s support for IPE23 and willingness to work with the ADF further.

IPE23 is Australia’s primary regional engagement initiative with the Philippines and 14 other nations in Southeast Asia and the northeastern Indian Ocean.

Senior leadership engagements, information sharing, sporting events, seminars, and other capacity-building activities will also be included.

Commodore McCormack was joined in the meeting by Group Captain Lesley Carney, Navy Captain Phillipa Hay, and Commander Andrew Duff.

Additionally present were assistant defense attaché Lt. Col. Tim Lopsik and Australian defense attaché Col. Paul Barta.

Baclor, Brig. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, DCS for Operations, J-3, Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Barandon, DCS for Intelligence, J2, Brig. Gen. Noel Beleran, Marine, DCS for Training, Education, and Doctrine, J-8, Col. Niceforo Diaz Jr., Executive Officer of the Office of the DCS for Logistics, J-4, and Col. Geoffrey Carandang, Secretary of the Joint Staff, were also present.
