Owners of “sari-sari” shops in Camarines Norte receive financial support
As part of the “Sari-Saring Pag-Asa” initiative, two senators gave additional funding to hundreds of sari-sari (sundry) store owners in the province of Camarines Norte on Friday.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Persons in Crisis Situations (AICS) program provided senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano with cash assistance (DSWD).
The flagship program of Alan Peter, “Sari-Saring Pag-Asa,” saw PHP3,500 distributed to each of the 300 store owners in Labo, Camarines Norte.
Rep. Josefina Tallado of Camarines Norte’s 1st District organized the distribution and advised her constituents to make judicious and effective use of the help they had received.
“Yung tatanggapin po naman gamitin naman sa pangkabuhayan naman, pandagdag sa inyong paninda para [tuloy-tuloy] ang inyong tindahan. Ang tinatanggap nating tulong mula sa gobyerno was gametin natin nang tama. Kami po is the primary tool to be used with you. (With the money we will soon receive, let’s use it to boost your inventory and keep your shop open. Let’s make good use of the assistance we get from the government. We are merely a tool to assist you “explained Tallado in a statement.
The grantees responded by promising to use the financial assistance as seed money for their microbusiness.
“Isa po kami sa pinakamalalayong lugar subalit kami po ay naabot ng programang ito,” remarked Derica Periera of Santa Elena, Camarines Norte. We are one of the most isolated areas in the country, but this program has reached us. Thank you, Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano. Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano are gratefully acknowledged.”
Tallado expressed hope that the Cayetanos will keep working with Camarines Norte’s local administration to provide assistance to the province’s citizens.
She remarked, “Senator Alan and Senator Pia said this is just the beginning of ongoing programs similar to this. Simultaneously, they added, ito ng patuloy na pagbibigay sa atin ng mga programang ganito.
