LGUs will get roughly P1 billion from STL and the lottery in 2022: PCSO

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) donated about PHP1 billion to local government units (LGUs) nationwide in 2022 to supplement their budgets for health and medical services.

LGUs got PHP948,173,268 in shares from a lottery and small town lottery (STL) revenues, per the PCSO’s 2022 Achievement Report.

Lotto shares were PHP395,224,629, while LGUs earned PHP552,948,639 in STL shares.

The PCSO is required to distribute the revenues to the local government units (LGUs) where lottery tickets are sold, with cities and municipalities receiving 5% and provinces receiving 2%.

“Up to matustusan ang kanilang serbisyong pangkalusugan at medikal para sa mamamayan, umaabot sa halos isang bilyong piso ang nai-remit natin sa mga LGU. We sent about one billion pesos to the local government units (LGUs) to pay for their health and medical services for the populace. Umaasa tayong ngayong bumabangon tayong muli sa pandemya ay mas tataas pa ito. Let’s hope that it will spread even farther now that we are recuperating from the pandemic “In a statement released on Monday, PCSO Chairman Junie Cua stated.

According to Cua, these shares would encourage LGUs to give their residents better services.

“Ayon sa Executive Order No. 357-A, ang pag-remit namin ng lotto shares ay nagtatakdang dapat may matanggap mula sa Charity Fund ang mga LGU. The basehan for STL shares is the 2020 STL Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations. (Our remittance of lottery shares is in accordance with Executive Order No. 357-A, which mandates that LGUs must receive from the Charity Fund. Malaki ang ambag ng dagdag na pondo na ito para mas marami pang Pilipino ang makadama ng kalinga ng pamahalaan. In the meanwhile, the 2020 STL Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations serve as the foundation for STL shares. This new fund’s contribution is significant in ensuring that more Filipinos experience the government’s protection “Cua was anxious.

Cua added that the PCSO, which has 72 branches nationwide and is prepared to assist individuals in need of medical assistance, will work to strengthen its partnership with LGUs in the delivery of services in compliance with the directions of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“We are working hard to intensify service, not only through the lottery and STL shares but also in our mandate to help through medical assistance and various institutional partnerships,” he said.
