The government keeps providing aid to those affected by the Mindoro oil spill

According to a Malacanang statement on Tuesday, the government of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is still providing aid to the communities impacted by the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro, which has so far spread to neighboring provinces in the Mimaropa and Western Visayas areas.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) mentioned continuing initiatives to support the regional community impacted by the oil spill in a news release.

As of now, the national government, local government units (LGUs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other partners have given the affected families a total of PHP28.3 million in humanitarian assistance, according to the national task force for oil spill management in Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the local government units in the impacted areas are among the organizations taking part in the humanitarian operation.

A 45-day cash-for-work initiative run by the DSWD, comprising 7,198 households (including that off-site), began on March 6 and will run through May of this year. It said that in addition to family food packets and emergency cash transfers, beneficiaries could receive (FFPs).

The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program has also been launched by the DOLE through a 30-day employment program in the three Caluya communities of Sibolo, Semirara, and Tinogboc.

Depending on the type of work to be done, TUPAD is a community-based package of aid that offers displaced employees, underemployed individuals, and seasonal workers emergency employment for at least 10 days and up to 30 days.

For a total of 200 beneficiaries in the province of Antique, the administration has so far picked 20 applicants from each of the 10 municipalities.

To prevent duplication of assistance, authorities are comparing the names of TUPAD beneficiaries with the DSWD.

As this is going on, a number of government organizations are working along with the International Tankers Owners Pollution Federation Limited (ITOPH) to identify the dumpsite and execute a huge clean-up operation.

100 local people are being hired by a private contractor for the oil spill cleanup to assist the neighborhood.

Almost 150,000 people, or 32,000 families, were impacted by the oil spill as of Monday in Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

When the MT Princess Empress drowned on February 28 in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, it was carrying 800,000 gallons of industrial oil.

The administration wants to complete the cleanup of the oil disaster in less time than four months, according to Marcos previously.
