VP Sara seeks further collaborations for the program for teacher housing

In order to safeguard the housing program for public school teachers, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte stated on Tuesday that the Department of Education (DepEd) is prepared to accept further collaborations with other local government units (LGU).

In addition to participating in the groundbreaking ceremony and MOU signing for the “Programang Pabahay para sa mga Guro at mga taga-Lungsod Quezon,” Duterte also made the statement. (Housing program for teachers and Quezon City residents).

“We are ready to collaborate with other local government entities, katulad ng ginawa ng local government entity ng Quezon City. ‘Yung pag-identify ng beneficiary teachers natin na qualified para sa kanilang pabahay (like what the QC LGU accomplished) is the partnership nila with the Department of Education. They cooperate with the Department of Education to find competent instructors for the housing program, and they have a housing program,” she added in an interview.

Such a program, according to Duterte, should not be restricted to urban areas.

“Ang isyu ng kawalan ng pabahay ay hindi lang po nakasentro sa mga highly-urbanized na mga lugar sa Metro Manila katulad ng Quezon City at Davao City sa Mindanao,” she said.

For its part, the QC government anticipates that the housing program would help 444 people, 144 of them will be DepEd employees who work in the teaching and non-teaching fields.

Beneficiaries of the QC housing program will receive a residence in one of the QCitizen Homes Republic Residences that are currently under construction.

Eight five-story structures and one 12-story building will make up the property.

The Pag-IBIG Fund (Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya at Gobyerno) or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) financing are two options available to qualified beneficiaries for the housing program.

Along with the housing scheme, Duterte urged teachers to take advantage of the recently launched livelihood program for women and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) community, which was established by the Office of the Vice President.

“At the Department of Education, we support that for our educators. The Office of the Vice President’s entrepreneurship initiative, Magnegosyo Ta Day, is something we always promote and offer, Duterte added in a combination of English and Filipino.
