PBBM must approve 14 proposals before the Senate adjourns.

Six more measures were accepted on the third and final reading before the chamber left for the Lenten holiday, according to Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, who stated Thursday that the Senate has now passed fourteen bills that need the approval of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Zubiri stated in a press release that two of the 14 laws, which were both approved on Wednesday, are the Act Condoning Unpaid Amortization and Interest on Loans of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries and the Act Further Strengthening Professionalism and Promoting the Continuity of Policies and Modernization Initiatives in the AFP.

“We really tried to finalize them before adjournment,” he said. “These two bills are part of the shared priority measures of the administration and the legislative.”

The Cultural Mapping Bill, the One Town One Product Act, the “No Permit No Exam” Policy Prohibition Act, and the Act Providing for Moratorium on the Payment of Student Loans During Disasters were among the seventeen bills that were approved on the third and final reading on Monday, according to Zubiri.

The Mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and National Service Training Program, which was also sponsored on the Senate floor on Wednesday, is another important legislation that is moving forward, according to him.

Another item on the joint legislative agenda of the executive and legislative branches, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership accord, was ratified by the Senate in February.

The Senate President stated that they want to put in a lot of effort and continue holding committee hearings during the break and until May 8 when sessions resume.

It goes without saying that the Senate is busy; even though the plenary session has been suspended until May, Zubiri added, “we will continue to hold hearings and move forwards with our priority measures over the next few months.”
