In October, the Comelec approves greater honorariums for teachers under the BSKE
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) stated on Thursday that poll workers who act as Electoral Boards (EBs) throughout electoral processes in the nation will receive higher honoraria in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
George Garcia, the chairperson of the Comelec, has stated that teachers who will be voting in the elections in October 2023 will be paid a minimum of PHP8,000 and a maximum of PHP10,000.
“We’ll set the price at 10,000 PHP, 9,000 PHP, and 8,000 PHP. In a press conference on Thursday, he said, “We’ll match it to what teachers get in automated elections.
The head of the election authority continued, “We will make it effective in the Barangay and SK elections.”
Garcia pointed out that because the instructors’ honoraria would still be subject to VAT, which is 20 percent, the payment for teachers is not free from the VAT reduction.
The new payment is higher than the PHP6,000, PHP5,000, and PHP4,000 that the teachers were paid during the most recent BSKE.
More than 75,000 teachers participated in the elections in May 2022 as electoral boards.
A chairperson, two members, a Department of Education Supervisor Official (DESO), and support personnel make up an EB.
