Leyte’s 60-year-old Tingib Dam will be renovated by the NIA
To guarantee continuing service to farmer-beneficiaries, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has revealed its intention to renovate the 60-year-old Tingib Dam of the Binahaan River Irrigation System in Pastrana, Leyte.
On Thursday, NIA Acting Administrator Eddie Guillen and important NIA regional officials visited the dam to assess the need for the building’s rehabilitation.
The NIA regional office issued a statement on Friday stating that “recognizing the importance of irrigation in agriculture, Tingib Dam’s mission to continuously improve the agricultural sector of Leyte province remains to be relevant.”
5,726 hectares of agriculture in the cities of Pastrana and Sta. Ana is now irrigated by the Tingib Dam of the Binahaan River Irrigation System. serving 4,569 farmer-beneficiaries in Fe, Alangalang, Palo, Dagami, Tabontabon, and Tanauan.
The agency has not yet made the project’s budget and schedule public.
Guillen claimed at a press conference that he has been traveling to different areas to personally inform farmers about their agency’s programs.
Additionally, he oversees the business opportunities and convergence forum for the Regional Confederation of Irrigators Associations in this city.
By encouraging transparency in irrigation project development and implementation, the forum offers a venue for the agency to improve its ties to farmers and its relationship with them.
In order to foster a climate of cooperation among NIA officials, staff, local government units, non-governmental organizations, irrigators groups, farmers, and the general public, NIA strengthens convergence initiative programs.
