In anticipation of the impending drought-induced El Nino season, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Northern Mindanao Region (DSWD-10) prepositioned 34,518 family food packs (FFPs) worth PHP23.4 million on Friday.

The FFPs were distributed to local government units (LGUs) in the area as a reserve supply in case of calamities strike, according to a statement released by the DSWD-10 on Friday.

According to the organization, the FFPs are a crucial component of LGUs’ crisis management plans and help communities and families in need.

The FFPs supplement the South Korean government’s earlier this week donation of 10,000 bags or 400 metric tonnes of milled rice.

The DSWD offices in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao, and Northern Mindanao will receive the rice provided by Korea.

According to DSWD-10 Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Marco M. Bautista, rice would be distributed to the people that were badly affected by the shear line flooding last year in Northern Mindanao.

“These are not just food gifts; they are life-saving donations since they will provide sustenance for the victims’ relatives. You may be confident that this will be handed to the impacted families and dispersed to them.

68 of the 112 affected households in Northern Mindanao, whose homes were devastated by the disaster, would get the donated rice from DSWD-10.
