PSA: The Ilocos Region received 1.9 million PhilIDs.

As of March 31 of this year, the Ilocos Region had received at least 1.9 million identity cards (IDs), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Of the total, 1.04 million were born in Pangasinan province, 156,424 in Ilocos Norte, 342,955 in Ilocos Sur, 403,749 in La Union, and 342,955 in Ilocos Norte.

PSA Ilocos regional director Sheila de Guzman stated in a virtual forum on Thursday that the PSA is still collaborating with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for a streamlined printing and production process as well as the Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office) for the prompt delivery of IDs under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

On the other hand, Filipinos who wish to register with PhilSys no longer need to pre-register online and may do so by visiting any registration center (see a list of registration centers here: https://www.philsys.gov.ph/registration-center/). To be registered, walk-in applicants must present any primary or secondary supporting documentation, according to de Guzman.

She continued by saying that gathering biometric data and validating an individual’s demographic data are both steps in the registration process. A transaction slip will be given to the registered person once the procedure is finished.

“The Provincial Statistical Offices in the region are also conducting PhilSys mobile registration activities as well as setting up registration centers at fixed locations and malls,” she added.

According to the PSA, as of March 31, 4.04 million people had already enrolled for Step 2 of the PhilSys.

At the PhilSys registration facilities, step 2 involves the actual sign-up process, which includes verifying demographic data and taking fingerprint, iris, and facial scans.

Republic Act 11055, also known as the Philippine Identification System Act, was signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018. Its goal is to create a single national ID for all Filipinos and legal permanent residents.

The national ID is a reliable form of identification that makes it easier to complete public and private transactions, enroll in classes, and open bank accounts.

One ID will be required for all transactions when interacting with government services, which aims to increase efficiency.
