PH Red Cross supports DOH’s polio, measles, and rubella vaccination campaigns.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) nationwide measles-rubella-and-polio supplementary immunization campaign, dubbed “Chikiting Ligtas,” is scheduled from May 1 to May 31. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has declared its participation in the campaign.

The effort is intended to stop a measles outbreak after past vaccination campaigns saw lower-than-expected participation, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic’s peak.

The program aims to immunize children aged 9 to 59 months with the measles-rubella vaccine and those aged 0 to 59 months with the polio vaccine.

Additionally, the PRC helped the DOH’s measles-rubella and polio vaccination campaigns in 2021, helping to immunize 193,241 kids against measles and 1,056,209 kids against polio.

The humanitarian organization is committed to promoting primary healthcare coverage, including immunization, and participating in the vaccination drive is a part of that commitment.

“We are honored to participate in the effort to eradicate polio, rubella, and measles in the Philippines. We at this organization feel that the importance of immunizations cannot be stressed because we are dedicated to promoting health and well-being. It is a crucial tool for safeguarding our neighborhoods and stopping the spread of disease, according to a news release from Richard J. Gordon, chairman and CEO of PRC.

He continued that I urge everyone to band together and ensure that everyone has access to life-saving immunizations, especially the most vulnerable.

The PRC is getting ready to mobilize its immunization teams across its 102 chapters nationwide in support of the DOH’s initiative to eradicate measles, rubella, and polio in the Philippines, working with local governments and health officials.

The PRC chapters will also support the campaign’s advocacy and communication efforts. PRC will organize its RC 143 barangay volunteers and invite medical professionals to join its vaccination teams. The DOH will be the sole source of all immunizations.

The local government entities and the PRC health services department will train the PRC immunization teams.
