PNP will increase police presence in barangays with high crime rates

To prevent crime, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will station officers in barangays that the local police force has designated as having a high crime rate.

Col. Redrico Maranan, the PNP’s top information officer, described the effort as a strategic action plan because the national police lack the manpower to protect over 100 million Filipinos nationwide.

According to Maranan, increased police visibility is a successful crime deterrent over time.

“For our deployment, it is essential to identify barangays prone to crime. Our commanders have already been counseled to properly implement it and carry out monitoring so that these are done properly. These are the locations where our people would be placed, Maranan said in a radio interview.

He stressed the significance of the barangay authorities’ collaboration in upholding peace and order.

He added that it is the responsibility of police commanders to start such cooperation because effective coordination between the police and the community depends on it.

“The PNP cannot station police officers in every barangay. The first thing we do is group the barangays, after which we erect Police Community Precincts, police help desks, or even a police outpost, according to Maranan. We are confident that if this is properly executed, we could reduce crime, particularly in barangays that are prone to it.

Maranan claims that reducing crime will ultimately lead to people having more peace of mind.

According to Maranan, the incoming PNP head would also implement a plan to ensure that all public complaints are properly addressed and handled as soon as feasible.

To establish ties between the police and the community, Maranan stated that PNP personnel must regularly visit schools in their various areas of responsibility.

According to him, the initiative is a component of the Oplan Bisita Eskwela, which gives officers the responsibility of coordinating school visits with barangay officials.

To protect our pupils from being harmed by criminal elements, Maranan stated, “Our policemen in the barangays are required to conduct patrols and coordinate with the principal and teachers.”

He clarified that hazing incidents and student altercations are among the offenses reported in schools.

Maranan says, “Our policemen will also ensure that our students don’t smoke, including vape.”

He clarified that this is a component of the PNP’s security measures in compliance with the current anti-smoking laws and other local government ordinances pertaining to peace and order in the communities.

According to Maranan, if correctly carried out, barangay, city, and municipal rules significantly contribute to the upkeep of peace and order in the neighborhood.

Therefore, all of these will be among the things our policemen in the barangays implement, Maranan said.
