DOLE-9 releases P43.5 million in employment and livelihood support
The Labor Day celebration in Zamboanga Peninsula coincided with the delivery of approximately PHP43.5 million in emergency job aid and livelihood support by the Department of Labor and Job in Region 9 (DOLE-9).
According to Engr. Wesley Tan, labor and employment officer for DOLE-9, 8,038 livelihood and temporary job assistance recipients in this city received 80 percent of the PHP43.5 million handed to them on Monday.
In Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Isabela City, 20% or more of PHP8.7 million was released.
According to Tan, 658 of the 9,328 recipients in the city are employees of canning factories and fishing companies harmed by the three-month sardine fishing restriction.
Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers program, we give them temporary employment, according to Tan. According to the minimum wage law, they put in 10 days of work and were paid PHP351 per day, or PHP3,510 for each person.
Several TUPAD recipients who asked to remain anonymous said the brief employment had benefited them.
According to Tan, the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) provided 50 individuals with livelihood starter kits totaling PHP994,600.
The Labor Day event in this location is a job fair with 3,909 openings.
According to DOLE-9 Director Albert Gutib, the open positions are available to anyone looking for employment locally and abroad.
34 employers attended the job fair, four of which were foreign placement agencies.
“Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Manggagawang Pilipino” is the subject of this year’s Labor Day event.
