At least 60 job seekers were employed immediately (HOTS) at the Labor Day job fair conducted on Monday at the KCC Mall in Zamboanga.

According to Karen Grafia, information officer for the Department of Labor and Employment’s Zamboanga Peninsula (DOLE-9) office, 13% of individuals who applied to the job fair were immediately hired.

Grafia stated that the oldest private hospital in the city has hired 11 nurses.

“All of the HOTS are for local employment,” she continued. Health professionals such as medical technologists, nursing assistants, pharmacists, laboratory clerks, and others were among the other HOTS, she added.

36 additional job hopefuls must still go through additional interviews and provide more supporting documentation before being considered for employment.

Director of DOLE-9 Albert Gutib was delighted to learn that the 11 nurses decided against looking for work abroad and chose to work locally.

34 employers attended the Labor Day job fair, four of which were international placement firms.

In the meantime, according to Gutib, a memorandum of understanding has been inked by the DOLE and the city government to implement the JobStart Philippines program locally.

According to Gutib, the initiative is designed to offer skill development to adolescents who are not enrolled in school.

Youth employability is improved by JobStart by shortening the time spent looking for a job and enhancing employability through training, paid internships, and full-cycle employment facilitation services.
