At the Labor Day Job Fair, which was simultaneously held in four locations around the area, 602 job seekers from Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan were hired on the spot.

According to Justin Marbella, regional information officer for the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Ilocos, 287 of the total are from Vigan, Ilocos Sur, while 315 are from various locations in Pangasinan, including Lingayen (83), Sta. Barbara (108), and Urdaneta (124).

Marbella said that 284 men and 318 women were among the job searchers who were immediately hired.

He added that some of the applicants who did not get jobs were directed to other government organizations and initiatives that were involved.

He said that 785 of the applications went to other collaborating agencies, while 46 were directed to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. In addition, 15 programs focused on entrepreneurship opportunities and 35 programs on livelihood aid were recommended.

In comparison to the 1,741 registered job searchers, there were 26,260 open positions, according to Marbella.

The Farmers Livelihood Development Center, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; the Public Employment Services Office Multipurpose Hall, PESO Bldg., Lingayen, Pangasinan; the Orbos Gym, Poblacion Norte, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan; and the Magic Mall, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan all hosted the Labor Day job fair in the area on May 1.

Angiela Dorado of Candon City, Ilocos Sur, who was one of those recruited on the spot, stated, “I brought many copies of my resume because I knew I was going to be on a job-search spree.”

The Write Way Review Center, a school located in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, employed Dorado as a teacher.
