Iloilo receives the country’s first call center for a US-based BPO company.

The 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park in the Mandurriao District will be the site of Atento’s first call center in the Philippines, thus the province and city of Iloilo will roll out the red carpet to welcome it. Atento is a business process outsourcing (BPO) company.

“We are pleased that they selected Iloilo because it is their first time in the Philippines. More rural jobs would result from this, according to Joeven Tansi, executive director of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (I-FIT), in a Thursday interview.

According to Tansi, they will offer services to make it easier for them to enter Iloilo, comparable to those that have already been made available to other investors.

The company has been on their radar, and President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s travel to the US and meeting with the head of Atento, a US-based company with investments in portions of Latin America, is a blessing in disguise, he added.

Director of US talent acquisition at Atento On February 7, Tyler Julian, Jeff Luttrell, global vice president of talent acquisition, and Diegon Galvan, manager of global talent acquisition, paid Mayor Jerry P. Treas a visit out of courtesy.

During the polite visit, Treas gave them a rundown of the city’s benefits, including its high-caliber graduates and students, low traffic, approachable and accommodating local officials and bureaucracy, business-friendly atmosphere, and generally stable law-and-order situation.

“Iloilo City is becoming recognized as a premier BPO location. Let’s make every effort to ensure that it continues to be that way,” Treas wrote in a Viber message.

The city, he continued, has dependable electricity supply and distribution, but it also requires the assistance of the federal government to enhance transmission.

In a separate interview on Thursday, Megaworld Vice President and Head of Public Relations and Media Affairs Harold Brian Geronimo stated they are overjoyed to hear the news because it is recent from New York and the President made the announcement.

According to Geronimo, Megaworld’s parent firm, Alliance Global Group, CEO Kevin Andrew Tan, joined the President on the state visit and is confident that the BPO investment was one of the topics they discussed when they met with the business community in New York.

He said that Iloilo Business Park (IBP) construction on Enterprise 1 and Enterprise 2, two additional office towers that, when finished, will provide around 77,000 square meters of gross leasable space, is moving quickly.

“Up to this point, we have still received a lot of queries on BPO spaces in IBP. Many of them are seriously considering Iloilo Business Park as their preferred location for Iloilo, he said, adding that they are from Manila and even from abroad.

Ten BPO companies are currently housed by the IBP, the majority of them are newcomers to the city.

Tansi, meanwhile, claimed that despite the need to upskill their talent requirements, there is still potential for new investors to go to Iloilo.

20 of the 103 BPOs in Iloilo province and city as of February are large corporations.
