In light of the surge in Covid-19 instances, the Department of Health on Thursday encouraged the public to concentrate more on additional layers of defense, such as immunization.

This comes after the OCTA Research Group revealed that as of May 2, 19.7% more patients in the National Capital Region (NCR) had tested positive for Covid-19 than the previous day.

The DOH also underlined the need for the general public to monitor our hospital admissions and healthcare utilization trends.

Only 3,157, or 18.1 percent, of the 17,480 non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds were in use as of April 30. Only 303 out of the 2,021 ICU beds were in use, or 15% of them.

According to DOH officer in charge Maria Rosario Vergeire, the country’s Covid-19 issue should not be solely determined by the positive rate.

The individuals examined are those who are most likely to be positive due to the adjustment in testing techniques to concentrate on symptomatic individuals, she added, thus the positivity rate is anticipated to rise.

She also recommended people to wear face masks, get their Covid-19 booster doses, and be vaccinated.
