The PBBM team, now in Indonesia, wants to find solutions for the ‘specific’ problems facing ASEAN.

Tuesday afternoon saw the arrival of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Indonesia for the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.

According to a statement from the Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, Marcos and the official Philippine delegation arrived at the Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia at 4:54 p.m. on Philippine Airlines Flight PR 001.

Officials from Indonesia and the Philippines welcomed Marcos, according to Garafil.

Marcos expressed optimism that the 10 ASEAN member states will be able to handle regional issues during the 42nd ASEAN Summit and maintain their position as the regional group is seen as a “hub for global economic growth.”

In order to improve our position as a center of global economic growth and tackle obstacles specific to Southeast Asia, we are enthusiastic about our shared efforts, Marcos remarked.

He continued for the benefit of the ASEAN countries and our allies, “At the 42nd ASEAN Summit, we will work toward finding solutions that champion ASEAN Centrality.”

Marcos stated in his pre-departure speech on Tuesday morning at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City that his attendance at the 42nd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will allow him to advance and defend the interests of the Philippines.

In addition, Marcos pledged to press for sustained efforts to combat transnational crimes, achieve food and energy security, advance trade and investment, and safeguard migrant workers in need.

Along with “pressing issues of common concerns,” ASEAN leaders Marcos and his are anticipated to discuss major power rivalries, the situation in Myanmar, and developments in the West Philippine Sea.

Marcos would attend the opening and plenary sessions on Wednesday, as well as the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Youth and the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Members of the ASEAN-Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Stated Garafil.

Marcos would also attend the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community Post 2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV) meeting, the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with ASEAN Business Advisory Council meeting, and the welcome dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the summit’s chair this year.

Marcos would attend the 15th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit before returning to Manila on Thursday.

Following the 42nd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, around 16 result documents are anticipated to be released.
