The Bureau of Immigration cautions travelers not to make up details of their journey.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) warned passengers to avoid lying and to be truthful about their identities on Monday since these are cautionary indicators that could jeopardize their overseas travel plans.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement on Monday that travelers who fabricate information regarding their journeys are frequently suspected of misrepresenting themselves.

“If you lie about your identity, your background, or the details of your travel, then it could be a reason for our immigration officers to doubt the legitimacy of your trip,” he continued.

Following a social media post regarding a passenger who denied boarding her flight four times in April due to misrepresentation, Tansingco released the statement.

“The initial investigation showed that she claimed to be employed by a large real estate company in the Philippines during an attempt in April, even showing documents ostensibly issued by said company,” he said.

However, after speaking with the female passenger’s putative company, it was discovered that her purported certification and other credentials were fake.

Tansingco pointed out that giving victims fraudulent documentation to make their travel appear genuine is a typical tactic used by unlawful recruiters and people traffickers.

There is no need to lie if you are traveling for authorized reasons, according to Tansignco.
