The solar company supports the host communities in Ilocos Norte.

As another financial contribution totaling PHP353,000 has been given to the provincial government, local inhabitants in the province of Ilocos Norte continue to profit from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of local renewable energy companies.

Leah Blas, the recently appointed provincial budget officer, explained on Tuesday that the action was intended to help the province provide various social services to those most needing them.

According to Blas, it has been suggested that financial aid be used to expand the ongoing supplementary feeding program for Ilocos Norte’s malnourished youngsters.

In a phone interview, she stated, “Based on the project statement, we have recommended to the governor that the donated amount will be used for supplementary feeding.”

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved a resolution approving Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc on May 15 to permit the gift from renewable energy company Nuevo Solar Energy Corp. (NSEC).

On March 30, NSEC, a partnership between Singapore-based Vena Energy and Manila Electric Co. subsidiary MGen Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), formally opened the 83.3 megawatts (MW) Currimao-2 solar project in Barangay Paguludan-Salindeg, Currimao, Ilocos Norte. There are about 24 hectares of forested land in the region.

Before the launch of solar project 2, the Currimao-based solar company gave a donation of around PHP300,000 in support of the young mathematicians from Sarrat National High School who competed in an international competition in Thailand alongside competitors from about 14 other nations. The money was used to pay for the delegates’ travel, lodging, and other expenses.

In a previous interview, one of the pupils’ coaches, Michael Malvar, said, “We are appreciative of all the support we are receiving from different education stakeholders.

The Ilocos Norte board established a CSR legislation 2014 that mandates that all company investors in the province submit their planned CSR projects before the board approves and supports them in a resolution.

Renewable energy companies, who have invested billions in solar and wind farm installations in the municipalities of Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, and Currimao, are among the greatest donors to CSR projects in the province.
