Philippine and US bilateral air transport cooperation grows

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Philippines and the United States will improve bilateral aviation cooperation by increasing air travel connections.

The Philippines and the US discussed their shared interest in promoting air travel and deepening aviation cooperation during a meeting on May 16 in Detroit, Michigan, which was held in conjunction with the 11th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transportation Ministerial Meeting.

The delegation from the Philippines briefed their counterparts on the industry’s current goals, particularly on civil aviation master planning, air traffic control, the use of sustainable aviation fuels, and the modernization of aviation operations and infrastructure.

Another active road, rail, and maritime transportation projects were also discussed.

DOTr representatives emphasized the nation’s efforts to modernize the transportation network systems, which are based on the concepts of sustainability, resiliency, and green mobility.

The Record of Discussion (ROD) addressing the evolution of air transport policy and regulation was signed by the two nations. It indicates both parties’ general aim and shared objective toward improved cooperation and understanding in aviation.

With the signing of the ROD, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Civil Aeronautics Board, an affiliated agency of the DOTr, will collaborate closely to foster greater cooperation and debate matters of shared interest and concern about aviation policy and regulation.

The US DOT Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, Annie Petsonk, and DOTr Undersecretary Elmer Francisco Sarmiento signed the MOU.

The ROD establishing a technical aviation discussion was signed due to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent trip to Washington, D.C.
