Rex Gatchalian, the secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), gave several Field Offices (FOs) instructions on Monday to preposition more family food packs (FFPs) and other relief supplies to locations in the predicted path of the incoming weather disturbance.

Tropical Storm Mawar is now outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Still, once it approaches the country, it is anticipated to intensify into a super typhoon.

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) field office prepositioned 4,401 FFPs in the province of Abra, 5,300 in Kalinga, and 6,654 in Apayao, according to a DSWD news release.

To make sure the stockpiling of FFPs is completed, the DSWD field office in the Ilocos Region has already visited the regional and satellite warehouses.

DSWD FO 7 (Western Visayas) had a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting even though the estimated affected areas are in extreme Northern Luzon to be ready for unforeseen circumstances.

A total of 797,051 FFPs worth PHP565.78 million have been stored at the various regional offices, according to DSWD spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez. “As part of its regular disaster response efforts, the DSWD has already prepositioned FFPs in strategic locations in all regions,” Lopez added.

Also accessible are 110,667 FFPs, including 101,525 FFPS at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City. These FFPs are also available in Disaster Response Centers.

According to Lopez, the DSWD has PHP69.77 million in its field offices and PHP579.89 million in its central office’s Quick Response Fund.

“The DSWD’s National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) is also coordinating with the Field Offices for the augmentation of food and non-food items,” Lopez stated.
