On Wednesday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued a fresh warning about a call center job fraud that targets Filipinos, primarily professionals, with offers of employment abroad.

This happened after the BI returned nine Filipinos trafficked to Thailand and Myanmar.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco claimed the victims had solid backgrounds in the Philippines before being lured to these nations.

These most recent victims demonstrate how human traffickers continue to employ the same technique to lure young professionals abroad to work in call centers that seem promising… only to discover it’s a fraud,” he stated.

The remaining six, who range in age from 20 to early 30, recovered from Bangkok on May 29. Last May 30, three of them—two males and a female—were returned from Myanmar.

Tansingco says, “The new face of victims now is professionals who have good jobs here in the nation but seek adventure abroad.”

Similar to other unlawful recruitment techniques, victims frequently reveal various travel objectives.

According to Tansingco, some are even going with their partners or claiming to be visiting family.

Early this year and in 2022, the victims fled the nation.
