More cops in public locations as PH is once again considered a ‘high-risk’ area for Covid-19.

After the country was once again categorized as “high-risk” for the coronavirus sickness 2019, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos urged police units to intensify their deployment of officers to public places on Tuesday night (Covid-19).

“The Department of Health (DOH) is issuing a red signal to law enforcement, advising them to rethink their tactics.” It is our responsibility to monitor person movement, based on national IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) guidance and local Executive Orders,” Carlos stated in a statement.

The provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal have been placed under the harsher Alert Level 3 status from Wednesday. This will last until January 15.

“In all three locations, the same pattern as Metro Manila would be implemented,” he continued.

According to Carlos, border checkpoints will be based solely on the directives of local government units (LGUs).

“As much as possible, we want inter-LGU travel to be free-flowing to avoid traffic congestions,” he continued. “However, once the local chief executives codify their mandates, we’ll be all set for checkpoint inspections.”

Carlos also wanted the public to understand that while stricter protocol standards are inconvenient, they must be adhered to without exceptions or excuses.

“I also advise our officers to be cautious while dealing with civilians in order to avoid clashes and misunderstandings.” “Empower yourself with the executive orders that exist in your areas of jurisdiction to better communicate to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the IATF would decide and recommend putting Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces on a higher alert level due to an outbreak of diseases.

When asked if he is open to recommending a higher level of Covid alert for these locations, he stated Tuesday night, “Recommending a greater level of Covid alert will be made by the IATF.”

Since March 2020, the government has recorded 5,434 additional illnesses, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 2,861,119.

Meanwhile, there were 611 new recoveries and 18 new deaths, bringing the total number of recoveries and deaths to 2,779,706 and 51,604, respectively.
