BI ensures that service is maintained despite reduced personnel.

Despite a reduction in manpower at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals and other ports due to an increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) assured visitors on Wednesday that service would be continued.

Commissioner Jaime Morente stated that BI workers will continue to provide a hassle-free service to the public.

“Our port personnel’s duty days will not be reduced since we have a responsibility to ensure that all international visitors who enter and exit our borders receive the most efficient and hassle-free immigration service from our officers,” he said in a statement.

Simultaneously, the BI head directed acting port operations division (POD) chief lawyer Carlos Capulong to retain the current work plan and timetable of immigration workers assigned to airports.

“With the volume of international travelers entering and exiting our airports steadily increasing in recent weeks, it would only be prudent to maintain our present staff to assure efficient and seamless service to the traveling public,” he added.

Morente also advised all BI port employees to properly follow specified health protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while on duty to protect themselves from the highly transmissible Omicron variety.

The BI previously announced that from January 3 to 15, it will have a 60 percent on-site work capacity at its main building in Intramuros, Manila, as well as other satellite, field, and extension offices in the city.

The move followed the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to place the National Capital Region (NCR) on Alert Level 3.
